Experiments in failure, and other September fun
After I created the dice bag for my D&D dice set, I wanted to try another with a different pattern. Unfortunately, it is coming out Not Right. Fortunately, I think I know what I can do to make it look like what I want. Unfortunately, I'll have to frog it back to its base and start over from scratch with the sides.
I started with a granny square base, and backpost triple crochet stitch to make the sides ridged, but they're just bowing out rounded and not coming to make that neat, sharp boxy look I had envisioned.
I do think I can take it apart and use a backpost double instead of the triple to cut down some of the excess material, use just a regular non-fancy dc in the corner, and then come back along each side with a row of sc to reinforce and define the edges. Do I feel like doing that today, well... maybe I will later? :-)
In other news, there is good progress on the arm rest I'm making for DH:
It's not even half the length that it will be, but things are going nicely and I might even have enough stash yarn in the right colors that I won't have to buy any more. It's always nice when that happens!
And lastly, I can report a new finish for 2015! My year has been sadly lacking in these. I present my volcano scarf done in the Bruges lace style:
I really love how it came out, and have decided to give it to my friend at work who untangled all the yarn for me after Chaos tried to 'help' with it.
This is also my very first experiment in blocking a finished piece, so I'm feeling pretty stoked about how well it worked and how nicely the pattern is defined now. Before I blocked the scarf, it kept rolling up on itself and looked more like this in-progress picture:
I'm really hoping that life will calm down for me in the next couple of months, and I will have more time for my own projects. It seems that there are so many more I want to try then will ever actually be possible!
