Now for something a little different
I've been working exclusively on the granny squares I posted last time, and am quite happy with progress. 15 squares are done, and 11 stitched together, but I didn't have any chance to take pictures today. That'll be something to show off next week!
In the meantime, I have a different kind of project I started involving a stationary pedaler, a game of Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, and a long ruler.
See, I've ben trying to get more physical activity for a while now, since my job is completely sedentary and my commute is an hour each way. Walking outside is not much fun for me, and I'm not close enough to any gyms or pools to make a regular visit. This led to my new Bike Across Skyrim project.
I sat down with the Skyrim Wiki to track every location visited in the main questline, in order, with all the back-and-forthing involved. Then with the list, it was a question of determining the distances in between each, to then find the total mileage covered during the entirety of the main questline.
Distances were a bit trickier - mathematics based on the game mechanics as worked out by someone as obsessive and nerdy as I am suggest that the whole map amounts to no more than 14.3 square miles. Which... seems like an incredible underestimate when you take into consideration that the country of Skyrim encompasses vast coastlines, expanses of tundra, mountain ranges, plains, 9 major cities, and dozens of assorted villages, caves, encampments, mines, and forts.

Thankfully, someone else with a lot of patience timed how long in game it took to walk (equivalent to your overburdened pace) from Riverwood to Whiterun - about 2 hours. That combined with an average walking pace of 3 miles/hour indicates an approximate distance of 6 miles. Hooray! We have a benchmark!
Armed with an 18-inch ruler and a map sized as large as was practical, I measured the distance between each point of landing along Skyrim's main storyline and came up with a grand total of 576.8 miles to cover from beginning to end. So that's my goal.
Yesterday on the stationary pedaler, I completed 15.62 miles in around 31 minutes. That gets me from Helgen to Riverwood, and from there on to Whiterun:

Not as colorful as a crochet project, but almost as much fun to figure out!
