It's been a long time....

2016 was hard.  I have a post in progress that may or may not ever see the light of day, depending on how personal it gets; but in the meantime, I wanted to write a tiny love letter to some of my favorite yarns.

Malabrigo: soft, beautifully over-dyed in some really lovely color combinations.  I recently finished a light, lacy shawl done with yarn from their Arroyo line, color Lotus.  It's a kind of purple and teal fading in and out of each other.  My only problem is that one of the skeins had a few patches where the fibers pulled apart, meaning more joins were necessary; but the other seems to be fine.

Wolltraum: light but solid; known for a very long gradient.  My mom gave me some to make a shawl for her; it fades from deep purple at one end to gold at the other, and I love working with it.  There's a bit of ripply texture to the yarn itself that makes it really interesting.  It's expensive, and very much in demand, but I'm hoping to buy some for myself as a birthday present in a couple of months.

Caron Simply Soft and Simply Soft Paints:  you have to be careful with this one; the strands like to unwind on you sometimes and it can be easy to put the hook through the yarn instead of under, which causes problems if you have to frog at all.  But it is absolutely soft and comes in some really beautiful bright colors as well as the pastels.

Hobby Lobby I Love This Cotton: sturdy, warm, with a really nice weight to it.  I've made both blankets and decorative pieces with this one (see the Granny Square Blanket for my favorite color combo).  I have to say there's something very comforting about cotton yarns!
