Weekly Update!

May has been such an odd month.  It seems like it's flown by much too quickly.  I suspect a large part of that is due to work stress - when you feel like you never, ever catch up, it starts to spill over everywhere else - and although I know I'm making progress on home projects, some days it doesn't really feel like it.

So anyway, things from this week....  I have been plugging away at the blanket for my niece (now tentatively titled "K Blanket" because I want to put her initial in the center) but did not take a picture today because it didn't seem that interesting to see one narrow purple isosceles trapezoid turning into a wider purple isosceles trapezoid.  Plus, I'm running out of the color I'm currently working with and will probably need two more skeins to finish these three corners.

Another project I continued working on is the next 'quilt block' made with half triangle granny squares.  This one is all ready to be sewn up; the squares are done and the ends woven in.  These are really neat because the squares are only three rounds, so they finish quickly; and each block is sixteen squares, which means I get a nice break switching back and forth from crocheting to sewing.

It seems like crochet has been my consuming focus for quite a while now; there's something incredibly relaxing about the repetitive nature and the mathematical nature of the constructs.  It's easy to do while reading, watching TV, or even playing some video games that involve cut scenes or turn-taking, because once you get into a rhythm, you really only have to glance down every once in a while and it doesn't take your whole focus.  But yesterday, I did put down the crochet hook for a little while yesterday and went back to one of my long-time crafty loves: jewelry making.

These are quick-finish projects (both were started and completed yesterday afternoon) and I made them specifically because I wanted something to wear to a concert tomorrow night.  The bracelet is actually made from a hairband; I saw something like it on a Pinterest board and did it up a little different with a couple of beads.

Here's hoping the weather is manageable tomorrow while I'm driving down - today has been full of thunderstorms and tornado watches!
